On-page SEO is the part of search optimisation you fully control. These fixes don’t need a developer, and together they make every page clearer for readers and search engines alike.

Titles and descriptions

  1. Write a unique title for every page, with the main topic near the start. Keep it roughly 50–60 characters so it isn’t cut off.
  2. Write a meta description that earns the click — a clear promise in about 120–155 characters. Preview both in our SERP Snippet Preview.
  3. Use a short, readable URL. Turn titles into clean slugs with the URL Slug Generator.

Content and structure

  1. One H1 per page that matches the search intent.
  2. Logical H2 and H3 headings so readers can skim.
  3. Answer the main question early — in the first two paragraphs.
  4. Use the words your audience uses, naturally. Check you’re not overdoing it with the Keyword Density Checker.
  5. Add original value: examples, data you collected, screenshots or opinions.
  6. Update old facts and dates so the page stays accurate.
  1. Link to related pages on your own site with descriptive anchor text.
  2. Link out to trustworthy sources when you cite something.
  3. Fix broken links — they waste crawl budget and frustrate readers.

Images and media

  1. Compress images and serve modern formats such as WebP or AVIF.
  2. Write descriptive alt text for every meaningful image.
  3. Set width and height on images and embeds to avoid layout shift.

What to do next

Pick your ten most important pages and run through this list for each one. Then track rankings and clicks in Google Search Console for four to eight weeks before judging the result.
